Happy New Year, Hammies
Well Runs Dry Subs Close in 18 Days, and the Salish Sea Poetry Festival has an event this Thursday to nourish your heart.
Dear Hammies,
Welcome to 2026
We hope the new year has been kind to you so far. As we settle into 2026, we’re curious: how is your well doing? What are you drawing from as this year begins?
2025 was a year of endings for so many of us, and those final moments are lingering into January. Transitions rarely respect the neat boundaries of calendars. But remember, endings always herald beginnings, new adventures to be had, new stories to be told, and new wells waiting to be discovered.
Looking for Community?
This Thursday, 1/15/26, the Salish Sea Poetry Festival is hosting a community event and open mic at the Honeymoon responding to the tragic murder of Rene Nicole Good in Minneapolis. If you are looking for a place to host and hold your grief, we recommend heading there.
Well Runs Dry: Submissions Close January 31st
We’re a little less than two weeks into the New Year and have a little more than two weeks left to submit! Our Harmattan Season Issue 10 deadline is approaching: January 31st, 2026.
What resources of yours ran dry in 2025? What’s revealed when abundance becomes scarcity? What endures when everything else has been stripped away? Send us your poetry and short fiction exploring drought: literal, metaphorical, emotional, creative.
We can’t wait to see what comes next from our writing community.
Your Editors, Rochelle, Joe, and David
