Dear HamLit Community,
Submissions have Closed for the Autumnal Issue 08: Hearth Songs
Which is to say we are stoked for our biggest turn outs for submissions yet! A huge thank you to everyone who submitted, spread the word, or even just follows us! It feels like we’re continuing to make strides with HamLit, and we’re so grateful to have you by our side!
To those who put pen to paper or finger to key, thank you for telling us your stories of home, the songs you sing, and the places we can and can never return to. We can’t wait to see what your interpretations of Hearth Songs turns out to be!
What’s next?
Submitters will receive your confirmation email by the end of the week to let you know your writing is safe and sound. First round notifications will go out at the beginning of September and Issue 08 is slated to release on Tuesday, September 17!
After Dark is coming in hot! Call for Submissions for HamLit After Dark open 9/1/24. This call will focus on the speculative, erotic, and terrifying in your repertoire. No theme, all genre. We’re excited to dive into the dark with you!
Hammie News
We have good news and sad news today. First, HamLit author Kaitlin Schmidt’s new book The Cartomancer’s Curse is now available for pre-order here!
A psychic card reader. A guilt-ridden thief. A magical mystery to unravel.
We have our copies ordered!
Remembering Robert S. Phillips
Next is a farewell to Robert S. Phillips, who passed away peacefully on Friday August 8, 2024. Robert’s two stories in HamLit were “The Great River” and “The Deadly Box” from Life Expectancy and Without Pause respectively.
Robert was an active and enthusiastic participant in the Bellingham Writing scene, running one of the Village Books writing groups (without those groups, the HamLit editors would never have met!).
Knowing his time was limited, he wrote and published his first book, Elodia’s Knife, and has already finished the two sequels: Matilde's General and Matilde's Empress. While the two sequels have not yet been released, they are already undergoing prelaunch marketing.
We’re so grateful that Robert shared his time and his writing with us. He will be sorely missed.
Thank you again
Your submissions, attention, and support on Ko-Fi and Substack make a huge difference to us and our ability to elevate the voices of authors! We’ll see you when fall comes!
Enjoy the last days of summer!
