Issue 08 is open now! Submit your short fiction and poetry—motivated by the theme Hearth Songs—before August 15!
We have so much to celebrate with our authors in this newsletters, and another in-person HamLit Reading to promote!
Dear HamLit Community,
This is a full newsletter for you, and we want to start with our Issue 08: Hearth Songs call for submissions!
We want to know what makes you think of home, rest, and those places that you can only return to in memory. The Songs we sing about the homes we can’t go back to and the homes we make. The Hearths that freeze and the ones that warm. Our planned pub date is September 17! We can’t wait to read your words! You can find our guidelines and follow us on Facebook or Instagram for inspiration. Of course, following our Newsletter on Substack is always awesome (if this post has be shared with you.)
Stick with us until the end to hear about our all ages, in-person event coming in July where HamLit authors are invited to read at Zuanich Point Park in Bellingham, WA.
A Huge List of Joy to Share!
First off, we’d love to give a shout out to our own David Beaumier for receiving the Village Books Literary Citizen Award. If you’re local you can join us in celebrating on July 11 at 6pm in Fairhaven. Learn more here!
Publishing News!
Mike Rostron’s fourth book Fjord Land is published and on the shelves now at Village Books! This is the sequel to Cape Decision and set in SE Alaska. You can purchase that here!
Tyson Higel—a poetry contributor featured in our first equinox issue—has had his book Confessions of a Stutterer picked up by Finishing Line Press, to be released on September 27th. It can be pre-ordered here until August 2nd at a discounted rate. All orders will ship on the book's release date.
Awards!
We should have mentioned in the last email, but we missed that another of our published stories, Pity the Peasants by Brian Feutz, won First Place in the Shorts Award Division from Chanticleer Book Reviews!
WOW!
That is a ton to be grateful for! We are honored to be part of such an incredible writing community. Congratulations, Hammies!
Park Paaaaartaaaaay!
Save the date and join us July 20 from 3-5pm at Zuanich Point Park in Bellingham. Please RSVP if you are able to join us and/or if you’re a published Hammie interested in reading an original work here! We had such an extraordinary time with our last reading and we’re delighted to be reuniting soon!
As Always
Thank you so much for being a party of the HamLit community. We met so many wonderful people at the Chuckanut Writers Conference, and we are warmed by the presence of such a strong community! Please share the theme and call to submissions with your writing friends, and we’ll come home to read your Hearth Songs this Autumnal Equinox.
Your HamLit Editors,
Joe, Rochelle, and David
