Issue 08 Theme Announcement: Hearth Songs. Plus, HamLit Interviews are live!
Happy 5 Years of HamLit!
Dear HamLit Community,
Five Years of HamLit!
While the heavy rains of spring continue in our corner of the PNW, our hearts are light and full of sunshine to come! Before we dive into the theme announcement, it’s worth celebrating an incredible 5 years of HamLit. We’re so happy to receive continued investment from all of you. As we go on, the journal deepens and the importance of all of us sharing this experience matters more and more. Thank you to all who have supported to us and to those who are just joining us.
Issue 8: Hearth Songs
Hearth Songs are coming for Autumn! Submissions will be open July 1 through August 15, with our pub date being September 15. We want to know what makes you think of home, rest, and where are those places that you can only return to in memory. The Songs we sing about the homes we can’t go back to and the homes we make. The Hearths that freeze and the ones that warm. We can’t wait to read your words! Feel free to brush up on the guidelines to get started, and follow us on Facebook or Instagram for inspiration.
Hammies in the News!
This section is a little larger today as we have so much to celebrate!
First, HamLit Editor Joe W. Donley has released a book of 100 Unusual Prompts for Writers of Horror, Weird, and Bizarro Fiction. This book takes prompt writing to a new level as a cadre of strange writers of strange fiction open our eyes to new ways of thinking about writing. Grab your copy now to prepare for October’s HamLit After Dark series!
Second, we have a beautiful interview with HamLit author Van Peltekian. Van has moved to Chicago, but we still love and cherish the writing he’s shared. Join us in hearing where he is now! Catch up with these stories published by HamLit: Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing from Alter Ego, The Night the Stars Landed from Golden Age, and Thirty-Two from Life Expectancy
And last, but certainly not least, The Great River by Robert Phillips won First Place in the Chanticleer Int’l Book Shorts Awards in the Chaucer Category for Early Historical Fiction. Robert’s story was originally published in Issue 05 of HamLit, Life Expectancy. Congratulations Robert on winning this prestigious recognition!
