Dear wonderful Hammies,
Thank Zeus, spring is finally in full swing! Even windy rain hits differently when the sun stretches out longer and longer each day, doesn’t it? Us PNW folks know that we’re currently cresting into the most beautiful five-to-six months around and there is really only one thing that will make it even better. Writing! Check out our upcoming issue details and a nation-wide publishing call below.
What is Water Trying to Tell Us?
Here in Bellingham, it’s almost impossible to be far from the sound of running water. Every storm drain always seems to be gasping at some new rush, even on the sunny days.
With Flood Memory we are curious what is remembered when water overflows. This might be an overflow in the world, an overflow of your heart, or just an overflow of too damn much to do. Whatever your inspiration, we’re curious how the memory shows up in those moments when we leave the fine lines drawn for us. Life overflows.
You can submit your work by May 15 through this link here.
Additional Submission Opportunity for Poets!
HamLit editor Rochelle recently sat down with Explore Washington State podcast extraordinaire Scott Cowan to chat about all things CASCADIA International Women’s Film Festival and ended up also diving into the history and joys of our beloved journal.
Alongside the 2025 festival (April 24-27 at Pickford Film Center), CASCADIA is also partnering with Ravenna Press–an independent literary press based in Edmonds, WA–to publish a poetry and short prose anthology, STILLS, which will feature work that responds to the films and craft conversations experienced over CASCADIA’s four-day festival. Though the film fest features women-identifying filmmakers, this anthology call is open to poets of all genders and identities (so… You!)
STILLS will be published in perfect paperback worldwide, December 2025. Submissions due August 1. Learn more here.
We can’t wait to read your work!
Please share the call for Issue 09 submissions far and wide! Again, we will be accepting short fiction and poetry reflecting Flood Memory through May 15, 2025. We can’t wait to read your saturated submissions!
With joy from your Editors,
Rochelle, Joe, David
