Well Runs Dry: Submissions Open!
Issue 10 for HamLit is accepting work now! Submit before 1/31/26!
Dear Hammies,
We Hope You’re Safe
As floodwaters rise from the atmospheric river across the Pacific Northwest, we just want to express our sincerest hope that you are dry and well. If anyone needs assistance and would like us to put out a call to our communities, we are happy to do so. Here in Bellingham we have, luckily, seemed to have avoided the worst of the rain.
Well Runs Dry: Submissions Open Today
While the theme feels somewhat ironic now, we’re opening submissions today for our Harmattan Issue: Well Runs Dry. There is something to the juxtaposition of our current situation and the droughts happening on the other side of the world. As we navigate one treacherous disaster, Harmattan brings its own crises.
We see a reflection between the two, a looking across and an understanding as we ask what resources of ours run dry? What is in your well? And then we examine the global connection: what links us and how climate shapes and sometimes shatters our lives, whether through deluge or drought.
Happy Hanukkah!
It’s the third night of Hanukkah, and we hope you are staying close to the light as we enter the darkest time of the year. Sometimes when we think the well will run dry it doesn’t.
We’re Ready for Your Stories
Submissions are open now through January 31, 2026, with publication planned for mid-March. Send us your poetry and short fiction about scarcity, thirst, and what endures when everything else has been stripped away. What cracks open in the dry season. What’s revealed in the dust.
We can’t wait to read what you create!
Stay safe out there, Hammies,
Your Editors, Rochelle, Joe, and David
